The 5 Most Recommended Tropical Fish for Any Child's Aquarium
A fish aquarium is a great addition to any house. Fish can be very tranquil and appealing pets. Caring for fish is an enjoyable hobby for old and young alike. In most cases, aquatic pets require minimal care for the benefits that they add to your home. However, like other animals, some fish require more attention than others. Therefore, it is very important to conduct research and choose your breed selection carefully when setting up a tank. Some fish species are better suited for particular lifestyles. For example, certain particular tropical fish are easier for children to care for than others. When setting up a child's aquarium, consider the following five fish.
1. Guppies
When it comes to ease and beauty the humble Guppy is a smart choice for a community aquarium. They don't have special dietary needs and are available in a variety of colors. Like all the fish we will be taking a look at they bear live young which is very exciting for children.
2. Swordtails
Swordtails are great in a community tank and happily cohabit with Guppies. They are easily seen from a distance thanks to their size and their bright orange coloration. By mixing larger and smaller species you help to add variety and depth to the aquarium.
3. Mollies
Mollies are peaceful fish that are very good with both Guppies and Swordtails. Usually they have black and white spots all over their bodies creating a pleasing effect in the tank.
4. Platys
Platys are always fun to watch in a community tank and they are quite content to share the aquarium with Guppies, Swordtails and Mollies. Easy to care for they are hardy and attractive fish.
5. Small Barbs
Barbs include the popular Tiger and Cherry Barbs which are ideal for anyone setting up their first aquarium. Unfortunately they don't do too well in a community tank because of their tendency to nip the fins of the other fish. With other small Barb species they are quite suitable however. Because of the way that this species likes to school most kids enjoy watching them and the fact that they are active as well makes them a fun fish to keep.
Caring for a fish aquarium is a wonderful experience for children. However, the expectation placed upon them should be minimal by adding hardy and appropriate fish to the tank. When selecting tropical fish to be cared for by children, select fish that are likely to live through an aquarium's first cycle. Look for fish that are active and colorful. Search for tropical fish that are hardy and easily fed. Keeping these factors in mind can add great pleasure to a child's first aquarium.
